WHAT IS THE ESSENTIAL QUESTION THAT DRIVES MY WORK?
How have stories and folklore shaped human culture and identity?
Describe how your sustained investigation shows evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision guided by your question(s) or inquiry. Site your work to give examples.
A good example of practicing a technique is #6 (fish) using one of my favorite mediums, watercolor. For my process I start with thumbnails, then develop a rough draft that may turn into the final draft, or transfer onto new paper with a light box or graphite transfer paper for the final draft. #8 is an example of a digital art experiment using a new process of blocking shapes in value and then assigning them colors. I use Procreate on the iPad, which allows me to assign hues to a monochrome image, allowing me to create cohesive color palettes. My favorite aspect of creating art is doing linework, so this was difficult for me as I tried to achieve a lineless style. #2 may be revised by adding more to the background, as I feel it lacks depth and atmosphere. Summer work of hand puppets will be revised into piece #12 to tell a story with hand shadows. Through making these pieces I was able to find a new Guiding Question: How can I visually illustrate already written stories to enhance the meaning and mood of the story for the reader?
